In today's review, we're going back to a 2020 release of a figure I didn't even know existed, the Diamond Select Toys Castlevania wave 1 Alucard, who happens to be the main character in my favourite Castlevania game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation 1 which was originally released in 1997. Castlevania has always been one of my favourite video game franchises going back to the original game on the Nintendo Entertainment system but were not here to talk video games, we'll save that for another day, so sit back as i review Alucard from Diamond Select Toys.
I'll start with the positives: the sculpt and paint job on these figures.
However, because the figure has hard-but-pliable plastic embellishments (coattails and robe detail), the sculpt gets in the way of a lot of the articulation, making posing for pictures a bit of a pain. On my Alucard figure, the paints are pretty good, with no bad spots, but in certain lighting conditions, the figure can look a little washed out.
Figure Specs and accessories
7" tall
16 points of articulation( roughly)
several sets of hands( to many sets for my liking)
Sword and sheath
Flaming blue Sword
Spare head with Fangs
After some posing of the figure and swapping hands and such here are my pro's and con's of Alucard figure.
Pro's
Amazing Sculpts
Decent paint work
Pretty good articulation
easy to swap hands and heads
Con's
To many sets of hands
Jacket hinders posing
Some hands are loose and have a hard time supporting the weight of the swords
Comes with sword sheath but doesn't have any where to hold or fit in a hand
Alucard is a good character with a few flaws in general.
Some of these may simply be based on my figure, but others, such as floppy wrists on the hands, may have been addressed by DST prior to release.
It would have been nice if the figure came with a display stand or some sort of sculpted base. But, in the end, Alucard looks great on my toy shelf with other figures thanks to the custom stand I built with other one off buys in my collection like Neca's Doc and Marty, Mirror, Mirror Mr Spock from One:12 Collective, so if you see this figure in your travels and the price is right Alucard is worth a pick up.
