Today we are taking a look at the Wave 3 Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins figure Mer-man the Ocean Warlord.
Merman was released in Canada near the end of November/Early December 2020 as a Walmart exclusive and retails for $14.97 like the rest of the regular release figures, you should still be able to find him at retail as I've recently seen several series 3 figures at Walmart and popping up at Toys R Us as this line was opened up to other retailers as of January 2021.
Merman comes packaged on the same retro style card back, as a long time Masters of the Universe fan I like the nod to the original line of figures with this packaging and card art that Mattel has used. Mer-man is packed with the same mini-comic as the rest of the wave and again the international version of the comic doesn't have text like all the other versions. Merman has 16 points working joints and stands about 5.5-6 inches, Mer-man has the same removable parts as other figures in the line to mix and match characters. As for his weapons Mer-man is packed his classic style yellow sword and armour which has the bow attached to it and that's a step up on the vintage version less chance to lose it, drawbacks of Merman weapons, his sword handle is a little too big for the gripping hand and armour is a bit loose and tends to move around a bit. With the 16 points of articulation you can get some cool posses with Mer-man, you can just about get that iconic scene between Mer-man and Skeletor were he hand Skeletor He-man's power sword as depicted below. Only feature i kinda miss in this line is the power punch which has been removed so you can take the figure apart to swap parts around.
As for colouring on the figure kinda bright compared to the vintage figure which isn't a bad thing and we do get the painted belt from the first run of his vintage counterpart. All in all, Mer-man is a decent figure and well worth the $14.97 cost, its a nice change to get a figure for less than $20 as so many cost upwards of $30 each.
